What's coming up in Floralia-land...

I recently had the pleasure of visiting the General Collective market at the ASB Showgrounds last weekend. It was utterly amazing to see all the beautiful, handcrafted works by awesome local New Zealanders. I came away with a delicious cupcake or two, and a tonne of inspiration.   Floralia Cosmetics is purely sold online at this stage, but it got me thinking about how much people still love the chance to smell, touch and feel products before they buy. Especially something so personal as skin care and makeup. So I'm making it my goal to hold a stall at a market such as this one so more of you can experience the goodness that is Floralia :)  Don't forget that I...

New year, new products!

We have been on hiatus! Which I profusely apologise for. But I have two very good reasons.   The first is that I was married overseas in the Philippines end of last year and spent 5 weeks travelling around Asia. Much of my time at the end of last year was consumed by the planning stress, excitement and hiccups of this occasion which meant that I was often completely out of time and/or burnt out. As a predominantly one woman band, I was not able to update as often as I would have liked and this meant putting the company on hold for a couple of months until I could dedicate full time and resource to it.   The second,...

Perfect your lipstick application

Without any silicones, plasticisers, alcohol or other irritating additives in our natural formulation, it is crucial to start with a great base and layer your lipstick correctly for long lasting and comfortable wear.   1. Use your favourite face scrub, soft toothbrush or wet face cloth over your lips to slough away any flaky skin.  2. Apply moisturiser and followed by a layer of rich lip balm. Let this absorb and sink in for a few minutes. 3. Blot excess lip balm with a tissue. Optional: Our semi-matte plant wax formula means you won't need lip liner but feel free to use a skin toned or matching colour lip liner all over your lips. 4. Dot lipstick onto lips directly from tube or...

It's official: Winter is here!

It's a rainy time here in little old Auckland. The chill is definitely in the air as we bust out our cuddly jumpers, scarves, and the trusty heater. It could be miserable, but I secretly enjoy the beautiful Winter fashion and trends. Eyeliner can get a little heavier, lipstick can get a little darker and more vivid, and the beautiful plums, maroons, and chocolates come out. Skin can be more matte and natural as we don't have to attempt the tanned contouring of summer. And nothing beats a gorgeous trench coat and black over-the-knee boots! Don't forget to boost lip and skin hydration in these drying months. A few drops of a quality facial oil (rosehip, marula and tamanu are my favourites) as...

What's in a dollar? Is 'natural' worth it?

Hello my lovelies, I thought this might be a good chance to discuss Floralia's pricing point. When I first started learning in-depth about what was going on my skin and really considering the best products for it, I quickly learned that 'natural' and 'organic' immediately meant PREMIUM. But my skin was suffering and I knew I needed to do something to keep my skin as healthy as possible. This is because I was switching from cheaper filler ingredients that have neutral to even detrimental effects  on skin such as petroleum and mineral oil, artificial colours, sulfates and the like, to rich, higher quality ingredients such as plant oils, butters and essential oils, and gentle cleansers that didn't strip my skin (more on...
